This is a great little restaurant. We came here about 10 AM on a Monday morning and there was no wait. They have 3 small tables outside and plenty of seating inside. The booths inside are a little small and I didn't see any tables. Their menu has a decent number of selections. I decided to go with the southwest breakfast burrito. The presentation was really nice, above and beyond what I had expected. It tasted good, there was lot's of eggs in it as expected and it took over the flavor somewhat and I would have liked some more spice in it but it was one of the better breakfast burrito's I've had outside of the South. The coffee was just OK and it would have been nice if they had real half/half or cream instead of the pre-packaged coffee creamers. The service was good, they became busy after we came so the service was a little slow but they kept check on us, making sure we had our drinks refilled and we knew when the food was about to come.

Was in town for the Traverse City Film Festival, walked by this gem and knew instantly we would be having our breakfast everyday here. Love, love, mom and pop shops and this certainly is one. Wish it were open late night, lol. A must visit if your craving a hometown greasy spoon with wonderful service.

The strawberry shortcake pancakes were really delicious. My mother had an omelette and raved about it (and she's hard to please!). The kids options are fun. The staff was friendly and accommodating of a large group of 8. We've been twice, and I would come again if we return to Traverse City on vacation.

This restaurant unfortunately as much as I wanted to like it was not one that I would recommend nor would I return to. Though the service and prices were ok, the atmosphere and the food are really quite distasteful. The restaurant felt cramped and did not look nor feel clean, which concerned me about the cleanliness of the kitchen in the back. It's an older place and it certainly felt old and dated and dirty. The food itself was not good. I had a quiche with salmon during my latest visit and it was quite subpar. The salmon was dry, the dish was lukewarm and quite forgettable in general. I had an omelette on my second visit and it was ok, but certainly nothing special. Plating was boring and lazy. Honestly, the gloomy atmosphere probably impacted my overall perception of the food and its quality. However, even if that is the case the food still just doesn't compare to the brunch restaurant a block down and across the street. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews but felt compelled to given that this restaurant is rated comparably to said brunch restaurant down the block and across the street and that's just wrong in my opinion. This is a 2 star restaurant - 3 at best. The food just isn't very good and the atmosphere is depressing. They would need to renovate the interior and improve the food quality to make it worthy of returning again.

Had an OK experience at the Omelette Shoppe. There was a long wait and we had a large group, which is all fine, but for some reason even though we told them we're OK to split up our group, they insisted on seating us in adjacent tables. Not sure what they were thinking, but it made our wait longer than necessary. The service was also quite slow - again I'm sure it was due to the big crowd. I had some pancakes topped with strawberries and even filled with strawberry syrup. I probably should've anticipated it, but it was way too sweet. Tasted food from others I was with - the belgian was just OK. Hash brown was also just OK.

Superb place to grab brunch! We've always encountered a line but turnover is quick. The goat cheese omelette is one of our favorites. They're homemade corn beef is amazing in their hash as well. Definitely worth the wait if you want some great breakfast options.

We wanted a nice breakfast outside for our last morning up north, so we gave this a try. They were pretty busy, but we were lucky and got a table outside right away. (One note: the photo in this listing is not this location - it is one of their location in Grand Rapids) You can make your own omelette...I had one with smoked salmon and Boursin cheese...it was quite tasty! My wife had a sandwich that she really enjoyed too! Definitely a great place to enjoy breakfast when in TC!

Don't order the coffee because even with the flavored creamers it was awful!! But the omelette and egg scramble made up for it. Hubby had the Maryland omelette with lump crabmeat and asparagus and I ordered the More Meat Scramble. The pancakes were light and fluffy and the redskin potatoes were a little greasy but hubby's toast was an unexpected treat with perfect strawberry jam.

The food was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly. Hit this place up when I was craving a good breakfast. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with over easy eggs and a side of toast. The bacon came out extra crispy (which is the way that I love it). The waitress was nice enough to ask if I wanted new bacon bacon that wasn't as crispy...but again it was the way that I like it, the thought was appreciated. The sourdough bread was soft, fresh and lightly buttered. The meal came with two pancakes which were a little thin but we're nicely balanced with the light runny eggs. Great experience and would definitely come back!

I loved it. The waitress we had was real nice and helpful since this was our first visit. I was in a party of for which included two kids and everyone was happy with their selections. I had a Mexican style omelette with pancakes and it was terrific. Highly recommend!!

This place is amazing for a variety of reasons: Food: My sausage and gravy omelette was fantastic -- love how they put the hashbrowns under the omelette so I could get all of the flavors in one easy bite. It was almost too much food, but I managed to finish it all. The raisin bread toast was super thick and came with ICING on it -- definitely don't have this back home. My husband loved his meat lovers omelette and the kids enjoyed their blueberry pancakes (this wasn't on the kids menu but we ordered them a full adult order to split). Service: Our server was quick and really nice. The kids got bags of animal crackers to nibble on while they waited. When the server brought out my husband's slightly overcooked omelette (it was a bit blackened on top), she immediately asked him if he wanted it redone. He declined and liked it as is. Three adult meals cost us less than $30. Portions sizes were generous. The one possible downside (which if you are aware of this ahead of time, you can plan accordingly) is that it's a small place and the space between tables is small. Our son's high chair made the walkway tight. If you plan on going on a crowded weekend, this could be a bit problematic but if you go on a weekday like us, it shouldn't be a problem. Can't wait to return to TC next year so we can eat there again!

Overpriced for what you get- $70 for a family of five breakfast , and I ordered a water and my daughter had one pancake. Never again. Very sweet waitress, Sarah or Sierra, she was great!

Visited during Fourth of July weekend. Needless to say it was a brief wait - but worth it! The food was great! My wife had the blueberry cheesecake pancakes which were awesome. I had the sausage gravy omelette which was terrific. Homemade sausage gravy was very good. Would highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast.

This place had a really cool atmosphere but unfortunately the food wasn't quite there. Bland French toast and overcooked eggs are what I remember. Meh

I had heard great things about the Omelette Shoppe, so my friend and I decided to eat brunch here on Memorial Day. The place was pretty packed and we had to wait around 25 minutes to get seated, but it was SO worth it. We decided to split one egg white California Veggie omelette with hash browns and the Berry Bliss French toast. The food came fairly fast, which was great considering how hungry we were. Now to the food... the French toast was such a treat to the eyes- it was two thick, soft pieces of French toast drizzled with two types of berry sauce and a white sauce that tasted like cinnabon frosting. It was SO GOOD, I could use some more right now. The omelette was also pretty good- it was a healthier addition to our sugar-loaded brunch. The hash browns could have been crispier, but they weren't too bad. Would I come back? YES, for that French toast- yes yes yes!

  • Amy S.

This is my kind of brunch place. Fresh, friendly and you leave full. It's got that home town local type of feel. Our waitress Amanda was attentive and super nice. But let's talk about the food. I got the California omelette and couldn't finish it because it was so stuffed with goodness. Their red skin taters - yeah get those. And don't forget the cherry walnut bread. I mean, you're in the cherry capital!

  • Julia P.

This place is awesome! After walking around the city looking for some brunch we came across this place. So goooood. Amanda was great and super fun. I got the Berry Bliss french toast and a cinnamon roll. Om nom nom. They were both amazing and left me feeling full!

  • Barramundi S.

Definitely a must eat at in TC. We were this past weekend and they have an excellent menu even for a family with kids...I tried the veggie skillet with eggs and it was excellent. Their cinnamon buns are a must have as well... Why 4 stars and not 5? Well the seating is kinda cramped and you can't really move around if you have a part of 4 or more. But either way a must eat at and we really enjoyed our food and it's good value for the $.

    (4)
  • Michael L.

Way overrated. Service was good, but food was borderline terrible. Pancakes tasted worse than Bisquick and my omelette was an overcooked egg pancake with barley any veggies. The french toast on sourdough was so sour, no one ate it. The cinnamon french toast was actually good, just really really sweet and rich. Best part of breakfast was the fresh oj and coffee! Go somewhere else.

Really disappointed. This has become a traverse city state for me when I come here for vacation every summer. Just came in and found out they got rid of the big apple pancake. Unbelievable! What were they thinking. Must have new management or something. When a place becomes known for something and then they get rid of it there's usually an underlying reason. So instead I was stuck with the hash brown casserole which was under seasoned and mushy. Disappointing. Bring back the big apple pancake!

We were recently visiting Traverse City and decided to stop here for breakfast. The place was just OK. We were sad that they didn't serve real maple syrup (they had imitation), considering that northern Michigan is swimming in maple syrup. Also, beware of their "tomato basil soup" - it was literally the worst soup I have ever had, and nothing close to actual tomato basil. It was like a warm bowl of water with a little cream, a half a potato in it (???), two pieces of tomato, no basil, no flavor, yuck. The waitress was kind to switch our soups for a different side, but the other sides (fruit & chips) looked like something you buy at the grocery store, not a restaurant (plus they said Terre Chips; they were regular potato chips). I wished we had chosen another breakfast place; this place was basically an Ihop or Dennys and I was hoping for something more independent and better quality.

Pretty good! Very filling. We got ours to go because we did not have time to wait. We did not have napkins or silverware in our bag which was a bit of a damper.

The omelets are premade and warmed in the microwave. This place used to be great way back in the day; I'm not sure what happened. Either way there are many better tasting and newer breakfast places in TC to try now. I would recommend branching out.

Had breakfast a little after sunrise. Waitress was friendly and genuine. Food fast, different. Had the eggs Benedict with crab, tomatoes, spinich. Also had blueberry cheesecake pancakes. Good hot coffee. We split both orders. The blueberry cheesecake pancake were a little boring, but good. The other was great. I will definitely be back, seriously. I don't realy care about the price when I'm going out. A little higher priced than most but the experience was worth it. I asked to sit outside and the waitress told no because it was gonna rain, it never rained. This was the first time my wife and I have been away from our kids together in 15 years, it was a great experience, just a few specific things that could've been better. Worth going and trying.

This place was great! I loved the vibrant colors they had on the walls, it made me feel very happy and energetic. They played classic rock and it just had this cool vibe. We went there twice on our vacation. On our first visit we were seated right away. We waited 15 or 20 minutes on our second visit, which was the estimated time they gave us. Both servers we had were very friendly. They made recommendations and stayed on top of our drinks. Our food came out quickly and it was delicious! I had bananas foster French toast and my husband had corned beef hash skillet with sausage gravy (which came recommended by our waiter) neither of us had any complaints. The next day we both had the southwest breakfast burrito. It was AMAZING! We will definitely return on our next trip.

So upset with this place. Hostess told us 15 wait. 30 minutes later she was seating people that arrived after us. The third time she did that I looked her straight in the eye and I'm sure my expression was all she needed to understand I was ticked. She sent someone else over to verify our name because she knew she screwed up. Seems she crossed off my name from her list by mistake. The food sure better be worth the wait!!

This place is amazing!!!! Eggs Benedict was fantastic. Southwest burrito was amazing too according to my husband. Very small and quaint downtown breakfast place. Staff was amazing and and so friendly. Food was fantastic. Definitely recommend it.

Well it was a very interesting place, I'll give it that! Set in a small rather unassuming shop with a front that is mostly cardboard covered windows you wouldn't know it was there except for the sign, which is rather noticeable thankfully. The food was pretty good, I got the Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal and a pecan roll, my companion the Belgian Waffle with strawberries. All was good, the oatmeal was especially tasty. I wasn't overwhelmed with the pecan roll (which I expected with the reviews) but possible that was because I took the 2 tablespoons of butter off it when it arrived. I don't mind some butter but that was a lot!! The decor inside was cute, if you don't like eggs don't come here, obviously the name indicates that they make a lot of dishes with eggs. My only complaint was that our server seemed to be hurrying us out, she asked 2 times if we were ready to order while we were still looking at the menus and delivered the bill before I was even halfway through my oatmeal. But she was very nice and attentive so it didn't annoy me too much. I would recommend this place ^.^

Love coming here in TC. The omelettes are better than a very popular chain brunch spot and fresher! The scrambles are massive and really fill you up for less than 10 bucks. Great little brunch spot with such a great staff!

Ok-- I know we walked in 15 minutes before close--- BUT -- that's no reason to be loudly verbally complaining about us walking in near closing time. My fiancé and I live a couple of hours away, he has never been here and I've been telling him about it for a year :(. And now the food: We ordered the hash brown casserole, the beef barbacoa Benedict and a german omelet. The omelet was tasty according to my fiance (yay!!), the beef barbacoa Benedict came as plain eggs Benedict, and the hash brown casserole was burnt beyond belief. Both were sent back. I lost my appetite, never this location again :/. The bee barbacoa came out as

What a gem! This cute little breakfast café is conveniently located in downtown next to a metered lot. Staff here are very friendly and service is very fast! The moment I sat down, I was asked if I wanted anything to drink. I ordered coffee and I was served a cup of steaming, perfect cup of coffee. I ordered Northport omlette with egg whites only. It was a-m-a-z-I-n-g. Garlic in this omlette was not overpowering- just enough for a wonderful flavor. Turkey sausage tastes like real sausage, and just the right amount of mozarella cheese. I had rye bread- it came perfectly toasted and very lightly buttered on one side. Oh, did I mention that the bread was like 1/2 inch thick? I meant to just have one bite... Then I inhaled both slices in seconds. I got the check and was getting ready to leave. The server came back and offered to give me a fresh cup of coffee in a to-go cup! They have splenda (yay) and individual flavored cream (double yay). I paid the bill. walked out with my perfect cup of coffee with a huge grin on my face.

Probably the best omelette I've ever had. The pomlette was really flavorful and the hash brown's were good too. The service was excellent and fast. A great price too, I would suggest coming here

  • Tone B.

To start, I did not have an omelette. I had a HUGE cinnamon roll and Eggs Benedict w/Barbacoa Beef. It was excellent. The roll was pretty middle of the road in terms of taste. But it was the size of a spare tire. The service was terrific. Bright, sunny faces kept me happy for my entire stay. Reasonable prices and right in the middle of town. It gets busy quick, so land a little early.

  • Crystal K.

There were some excellent moments dining here. I ordered the eggs Benedict with clump crab and it was the perfect combination of savory with a little sweetness from the crab. One small complaint was one egg was just the other side of over cooked and one poached egg was under done. I wish there had been consistency in the eggs. Additionally the pancakes were wonderful, buttery and delicious. Both the sausage and bacon were on point. The coffee was smooth and they offered flavored cream. A less successful item was the biscuits and gravy which tasted way too much of flour and no zip to the gravy at all. Also, the red skin potatoes were like a boiled mess and two potatoes had bad spots, definitely stick with the traditional hash browns. All and all, I would recommend this restaurant and recommend the eggs Benedict, omelettes, or pancake dishes.

  • Mark F.

Parking not so good. Food pretty good but Mexican omelette needed more zip! My sons enjoyed their cinnamon roll French toast . Coffee was good and they had flavored creams. The Mrs enjoyed here eggs and loved the toast and jelly. Cinnamon roll also was good size and flavorful.

Very family friendly. Each child receives a little plastic bag with crayons and crackers and a moist towelette! Food was delicious. I ordered the corned beef hash, and my wife the pecan roll pancake. Both were delicious. Both kids shared a cinnamon roll pancake which was too much food but they devoured it. We arrived early (around 8:45) and there was no wait. By the time we left (9:15 ish) there was a steady stream of people. Service was prompt and attentive. Would definitely come back in the future.

This place surprised me. There were long lines for most of the time we were there, and our wait was 30 minutes. I ordered the breakfast burrito, and it was great, even the side of red-skinned potatoes. My wife ordered a pecan roll french toast that she really liked, too. The interior was clean but small. Service wasn't that great, but it wasn't bad. Prices were acceptable for a Traverse City restaurant, and the food quantity and quality associated with the prices was above average to me. There was a lot on the menu, ranging from many omelette options, to corned beef hash, scrambles, and pancakes...all the way up to eggs benedict. I would go here again, and I don't say that often for breakfast restaurants.

  • Ann S.

My hubby got an omelette every time we went here (3x) and he loved each one of them. (I liked the bites I took of them too) Me? I liked 1 of the 3 meals I ate here. It's not that they were bad...okay, I take that back, the apple pancake...bleck. That was gross but I was so friggin' hungry after the extra wait for it (they should note that on the menu, not after you order it), that I ate most of it. It tastes like crème brulee and that's not what you want when you're hankering for pancakes. I got the cinnamon roll French toast one morning and it was good except the egg batter was still wet which made it a little runny and sloppy. I don't know if it was the crevices of the roll or what but yeah, it wasn't the best attempt. Their bacon is amazing though so that saved that particular breakfast. My favorite was the sunny croissant or something like that. Basically a bacon, egg and cheese croissant with fruit wedges. I know this is a weird note but they don't carry grape jelly at this location...just at the Front St location toward East Bay. The strawberry jelly they serve apparently tastes fermented according to my husband and that doesn't sound appetizing to me but neither does strawberry jam. So lesson learned...when you go to a place called The Omelette Shoppe, you should probably get their specialty...omelettes.

Outstanding breakfast - we just loved this place. Had to wait, but well worth it. In fact, if you put in your name and go to a nearby store, someone will come and get you for your table. Bernie, our waitress, was a gem - great service and a riot. Choose the cherry toast option with your breakfast.

  • Stephen P.

Late brunch of the orange creamsicle pancakes with cherry pecan sausage. It was magnificent. Waitress, Amy, more about Amy in a moment, brought us a glass of the orange juice and strawberry blend. Also delicious. The only thing that would make it better is a splash of champagne to make it a orange strawberry mimosa. Amy is a bundle of unstoppable energy and is a delight. She and the rest of today's staff made it an unexpected treat. Thank you.

Really great menu- very diverse and delicious. I ordered a scrambler- cooked exactly how I ordered it. The rye bread is delicious and thick and the red skin potatoes were perfectly seasoned. I like their system for waiting for a table. Everyone gets a card with a celebrity on it and you can walk around to other stores while you wait and they'll call your name on an intercom system. Made waiting for breakfast a breeze. Delicious coffee, great service... I'll be back next time I'm in Traverse.

The omelette was horrible. Watery and tasteless. My wife's eggs were hard and rubbery, no taste. Hash browns mediocre. At least the toast was good.

We went here expecting an awesome brunch on Sunday and had to wait 20min for a seat, followed by a 40+ minute wait for our food. For the amount of time we had to wait for a seat, then our food, I was highly disappointed. The wait staff screwed up my girlfriends order, twice, and seemed less then enthusiastic. I honestly could, and have made better food in my own kitchen! I will not return.

It's a good brunch spot and good food. There was a big wait but since we only needed a table for 2 they got us in quick. Don't expect to show up with a big group and get seated in a timely manor. Its a small place and is nice to have a good breakfast with just a few people.

  • Chad S.

Probably the most popular breakfast place in downtown TC and for good reason, it has a huge menu and everything I've tried has been excellent. Skillets, Omelette's, cinnamon rolls are all wonderful. Sometimes can be a wait but don't all good places have a wait? Highly recommend, you'll enjoy this place if you love breakfast food. Nice friendly service as well.

  • Rebecca K.

I had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, but then the service was quick and attentive. I had corned beef hash and eggs. The corned beef was delicious; homemade with large chunks of beef. It's the kind of menu that makes you want to come back and try everything once!

  • Janelle M.

I had the Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche, and it was wonderful!, probably the best I've ever had. The Cinnamon Roll was delicious as well, and lived up to its reviews. The inside was a little noisy and tight as it's a small place, but the staff was friendly and kept things moving.

The Omelette Shoppe was a mixed bag. The coffee was totally forgettable. I ordered the vegetable skillet, which came half-filled with food - never been served a half-skillet before! That being said, the skillet was delicious and well prepared - al dente vegetables, decent cheese, good potatoes, nicely done eggs, etc. There was plenty of food there, even half-full. The apple-walnut sausage didn't seem remarkable in any way. My companion and I asked for the cherry walnut toast, which came with a thick coating of sugar glop on top. Since I have diabetic concerns, I asked for a piece without the glop, and our cheerful and energetic waitress brought one out. My companion scraped the sugar off hers. The toast was delicious! My companion ordered tea, which came in a French press and developed deep and rich flavor. She approved totally. I'd return, knowing what to expect. 3.5 stars - some things very well done, others not so well done.

My omelette was out-of-this-world, and my wife had the featured scramble. Equally as good. Conscientious serving staff. They make a point of asking if you need anything even when it isn't one of their tables. Tried to go back the next day, but the wait was over an hour! Obviously, I'm not the only one who finds this place good. Need to have REAL HEAVY cream available for those who want it. Our server told us she gets a lot of requests for it, so why not have it? Generally not a fan of places that spell shop shop-pee (i.e., shoppe...ain't that classy?), but I'll make an exception in this case.

This is a great breakfast spot to go to in TC, especially if you can snag a table outside on the sidewalk. The menu contains typical breakfast fare, and it seems like everything is yummy. I had the broccoli and cheddar quiche, and it was perfectly done! The cheese on the quiche was nicely browned and the pastry crust around it was flaky and delicious. My bf had the sausage gravy omelette and said that he loved the gravy, and wished he had ordered an extra side of it. Cute little place with friendly wait staff and reasonable prices.

We were recently on vacation up in traverse city and wanted a "breakfast place" so we happened upon the Omelette shop and bakery and we were all very pleased actually we were so pleased we went back two more times after our initial visit. Its a comfortable place and the waitstaff were very friendly. There were a total of seven of us and there was not one complaint in the bunch. Good prices, Good food, Good people like Arnold WE WILL BE BACK!!!

Very small venue, which is ok and understandable for the Traverse City downtown area. Ordered the Northport omelette, which was very dry and was somewhat saved by a large amount of Louisiana hot sauce. I went for the omelette because of the name of the place and was sure it would not disappoint, wrong-o! Only highlight was the quick service, although it did feel as if our waitress was trying to get us out if her sight. I will not be returning to this or any other omelette shoppe. Boo.

  • Kristen G.

Great Omelette! My hubby and I both got the Pomelette. Delicious! Also, I really enjoyed the wheat toast. I was surprised to see how small this Omelette Shoppe is compared to the one I have been to in Grand Rapids but we didn't have to wait to long and it felt very cozy. We will go back!

Had breakfast here on two consecutive days on a recent TC visit. Day One..Three of us had their excellent corned beef hash..great flavor and not at all greasy. Day Two we had the Early Bird Special..a two egg omelette with toast and coffee. The omelettes were huge..toast is top shelf. Service on both days was efficient and friendly.

The Omelette shop has a strong reputation and I've dined at this location several times over the years. If you order one of the omelets off the menu, I think they do a great job. Recently I have ordered a customized omelette that used egg beaters, and I was not impressed. But my good experiences have far out-weighed that one negative experience. There are at least two locations that I know off in Traverse City, I'm preferential to the downtown location.

  • Sean T.

If I could, I would have given them negative stars. I have been coming here occasionally for years. This was the first time with a good friend of mine who happens to have a dairy and egg allergy. Upon hearing about this allergy, the waitress became somewhat rude and abrupt. There wasn't much on the menu for options so to be safe she planned on just ordering a fruit bowl. The waitress informed her that they would not be serving her. They don't serve people with this allergy as the egg could be slopped around on everything and it's a liability (I don't remember her exact words but it was close to this). What a joke! The only way egg is getting on everything including fruit is if they run a shitty sloppy kitchen which makes this excuse even more pathetic on their part. I will not be going back and if you happen to have a dairy and egg allergy please note, they won't serve you. I will give my business to places that don't discriminate and run a sloppy kitchen. What an absolute joke of an excuse. I would assume this policy was put in place to allow them to be lazy.

With all the new restaurants in town it nice to go back to the tried and true with seasoned wait staff. I had the pleasure of having Sunday breakfast with a talented server (Larissa) and great wholesome food. Thanks Omelette shop for not letting us down.

3 stars for food. 2 stars for service. We were directed here by a local with the reservation that her eggs have always been served cold. Our eggs were warm but the hashed browns were cold on the edges. The homemade cinnamon roll was good and so was the rest of the food- nothing great. Service was not so good. Three different people waited on us, and we had to ask for some items twice. It's not a place for bigger people as the place is packed very tight with tables. I would go here again simply because it's the only place in the area I know of to sit down for a "hot" breakfast.

The Omelette Shoppy! That's how I say it in my head. Ye Olde Omelette Shoppe. In town for the film festival, I ate twice at the Omelette Shoppe. Not too many places in downtown Traverse City to get a full breakfast! From pancakes and french toast to skillets and scrambles, this is the place to go for classic brunch food. The vibe is that of a busy diner; you half expect even the twenty-something waitresses to call you "hon" as they carry a pot of coffee in each hand. I've never had to wait here, even during the festival. I've had both a skillet and a scramble, and everything is reliably good, but none of it elevated beyond that. It is exactly what you'd expect - nothing more, nothing less. Filling, American standards that hit the spot. They really like to put sausage gravy on things. I resisted the urge, but my friend swears by it! She also loves their cinnamon rolls, which are humungous. If you get one, you will need to share it unless you are crazy-hungry. Or just crazy. Worth a stop if you're visiting Traverse City! But it's nothing you can't get at most traditional breakfast spots.

Long lines on the morning we arrived in August, but things seemed to move quickly for the only meal we ate out while in TC. The atmosphere is lively at this typical diner and breakfast joint. The options are almost limitless here for egg dishes, to french toast to pancakes, etc. Of course, the service is super friendly as is it is everywhere on the U.P. We loved this place due to the fact that they have shredded hash browns. You're all good in my book if you have these for breakfast. The eggs were just fine as were the omelets the in-laws ordered. The only thing missing from the table was the ever popular cranberry walnut bread with the goopy looking icing. Great spot for breakfast while in TC.

It's a small diner with some great options for breakfast. They also serve lunch too but we were there for breakfast. I had the sausage omelette and my boyfriend had the western omelette. The eggs were fluffy, not dry. They make their own bread which is fantastic. The cinnamon rolls are a must-have as well!

Delicious omelettes! I had the Mexican omelette. Filled with yummy avocado, chorizo, jalapeños, tomatoes, sour cream an cheese. Served with toast. Service was very good on this busy Saturday. We did have to wait about 40 minutes. It's a small place but worth the wait. Kids menu too.

I couldn't decide which was more delicious, Amy's service or the pumpkin pancakes, so I'm giving both 5 stars. The pumpkin pancakes were a large enough serving for breakfast and dessert after lunch and tasted fantastic! :). Amy's service was peppy, entertaining, and expedient. I'll definitely be returning for more.

An great breakfast stop. Old diner feel and food was great. The scrambled eggs were some of the best restaurant eggs I have had. We were a table of 5 and it was crowded but worth it. Prices very reasonable.

Great place for breakfast the French toast was awesome my wife loved the scramble, the coffee is not good. But if you like high fives and an energetic staff this place is for you. Amy was the best and I would go back just so she could start our day off right!!

The best breakfast burrito of my life! I also loved that they gave me a coffee to-go after our meal. If you get a choice of toast, try the house specialty. I will go there every time I'm in Traverse City from now on. :D

The food was good. But not great. The wait was horrible. We where told a 25min waiting but waited almost 40min. The service was slow. We had to ask for silverware when our food came out and watched several other tables do the same. Breakfast for two was $30.

We discovered the Omelette Shop this summer and are both big fans. My husband, who is very particular about his eggs said that his omelette was the best he's had in a very long time. I have tried the pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and hash browns and each item was delicious. The coffee is good. The staff is right on top of things. The prices are fair. The only downside is that often there is a long wait to be seated.

We had a brunch there the day we were leaving. It was a Sunday, and it wasn't crowded when we went, though the waitress there told us that it will be packed a little later. She was right... When we were done and were leaving, we looked around and found that tables were mostly occupied. I had to try their omelette, so I ordered the California veggie omelette. The eggs were very fluffy, not like those omelet that you have sometimes where it's a thin sheet of eggs. My husband also had an omelet, and he liked it too. I had mine with a slice of pecan cherry toast, and it was very good too, with the tartness from the cherries, crunches from the nuts, and the sweetness from the icing it has on top. The waitress was also very nice, and the service was quick too.

This review is a bit belated but better late ... oh well, here's the review: First (and if not for the food, would be best) of all, we were met by a delightful nutty waitress named Amy. She is truly a force of nature and consummately entertaining. Though Amy didn't actually wait on us as we were not in her section (we wanted to sit there but it was apparently not her turn to have a table), she actually did all but bring us our food. Our waitress, who was very good herself, allowed us to play with Amy whose recommendations we fortunately followed. We had, as I recall (one of the hazards of a postponed review) an apple omelette. Sounds odd but whatever it was, we thoroughly enjoyed it. And at Amy's recommendation (as if we would not follow her lead), we left room for a cinnamon roll. I'm not usually a sweet eater but sure glad I had one of those things which are a virtual meal in themselves. Looking forward to the next trip to TC to have another great meal and show at the Omelette Shoppe.

First off, it was mine and my boyfriends first trip to Traverse City. We were leaving our cabin at spider lake and asked Suri where to get breakfast, and Suri said "The Omelette Shoppe & Bakery". There was a little wait, but the hostess Amy made it worth it. LOL..she is a breath of fresh air, little..ok A LOT on the sarcastic side, but she was hilarious! I ordered the California Veggie Omelette and my boyfriend ordered the Sausage and Gravy omelette, both were FANTASTIC! We ordered a cinnamon role as an "appetizer" and I had the fresh squeezed strawberry and orange juice (delicious). The cinnamon roll was around $.75, crazy considering how good it was. The jelly was homemade and the sour dough toast was perfect! Oh yeah and I ordered a biscuit and gray too it was spectacular!! Seriously, they are lucky to have Amy as a member of their staff. My boyfriend and I said she should be in acting or something with that big personality of her!!! We will be back!!!!!!!!!

I've been coming to the Omelette Shoppe for as long as I can remember- from the days of ordering the happy face pancake as a little girl to currently indulging in the French Potato Omelette. Mom and I always, always came here after church when I was young- and yes, they really did put fruit on the child's pancake in the shape of a smile. How adorable is that? Breakfast is my favorite, and so is the Omelette Shoppe. My favorite contains bacon, sour cream, and chives... so fattening, but oh so good. There's another location near Central High School and NMC, so if the wait is too long, the Front Street location is bigger! The selection is amazing and the food is always solid. Highly recommend.

Quincy provided excellent service at front street location. Never fail scrambled eggs and ham and cherry walnut toast are what always brings us in.

We were passing through Traverse City, hoping to find a pancake place, but we didn't realize what a gem we would find! This place has some amazing food. Neither of us got an omlette, but my boyfriend's skillet was humongous and my blueberry cheesecake pancakes were sinfully delicious. The orange juice was really fresh and the you can definitely tell that the toast is baked on-site. We weren't there during a busy time, so I can't address the accusations of long waits, but the servers were very friendly. We even considered coming back through town on our way back home just for another meal, but it was too far out of our way. Nuts!

This place was AWESOME!!!! Delicious! I didn't have an omelette; however, and looking at some of the other reviews perhaps that's why my star rating is higher than others. I had the Multi-Grain Panacakes ... Boyfriend had the French Toash with the Cinnamon Raisin Bread. I thought they were both super tasty, especially with my coffee. Thanks YELP for pointing me in the right directions! Cofee was flowing ... Waitress was attentive and made excellent suggestions to help us make good choices. Loved the bread selections! Portions were too big, but that's alright!

I think a place called the "omelet Shoppe" should have stellar omelets. These were mediocre at best. The positive, the wait staff was quick and attentive. We did not wait long to be greeted or for our food to arrive. The negative, I ordered a bacon and avocado omelet. The eggs looked a little like the eggs you used to get on an airplane but I could get over that. The avocado looked and tasted like it had been sitting out all night. Not. Good. Taking the avocado out of an avocado and bacon omelet leaves you with.....bacon and eggs. My husband's fruit salad looked even older than my avocado. Perhaps if you steer away from produce and smother everything with cheese this place could be ok. My kids scarfed their eggs, hash browns and pancakes down. Between the kids happiness and the attentive staff I am scrounging up two stars. Would not go back however.

Solid breakfast option. Nothing too special but lots of options from omelets (obviously) to stuff from the griddle to bakery items. Would be good for families. The staff was really nice and even gave us coffee and tea to go!

Great service but dishes were cool and not as fresh as they could be. Potatoes had been fried a while before and were limp and tastless in the skillet. I may return and try a different dish as others rave about the place.

We had a great visit today and Amy helped us get our kids to eat their breakfast by substituting the multigrain pancakes for buttermilk. She also gave them a treat after they ate their meal! We visit the Omlette Shoppe every year we return to Traverse City, going on 9 years now!

I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars...I really do. The first time I went to The Omelette Shoppe a few months ago, I was not impressed with anything except the AMAZING raisin toast. I got some kind of omelette and I remember thinking..."This place is called the Omelette Shoppe?? Really???" Good news is, that raisin toast drew me back, so I begged my man to take me there on our latest trip to TC. I am glad I gave it another shot! We both ended up getting the Sausage Gravy Omelettes with the raisin toast. When I ordered mine, I asked for the gravy on the side so I could put it on my hashbrowns - this is where the trouble began. About 10 minutes after putting our order in, I could see a sausage gravy omelette in the window (I had a perfect view of the waitress station). Then a second sausage gravy omelette popped up...which is good, right? Well, I had asked for my gravy on the side if you recall - so I see and hear our waitress arguing with the cook that he messed it up, but he made her come out and ask me if I would eat it with the gravy on it already. Being a) not too picky and b) hungry, I said no problem...but in my head all I could think about was how unprofessional that was! I'm paying you to make my breakfast the way I asked - and what I asked for wasn't even that difficult! Anyways, the omelette was very good - the hashbrowns came out about 5 minutes later and then we still had to ask for our toast. Apparently in all of the sausage gravy shenanigans they were too busy to put the rest of our order up. Good food, service was...meh. One other thing that bothered me was the fact that I could see the 2 teenaged waitresses flirting with the cooks in the back - giggling, throwing tickets at them, etc. Pretty ridiculous. The final straw, though, was when the cook asked the older waitress for a cinnamon roll. She opens this drawer and picks up a roll WITH HER BARE HANDS!!! Then she hands it to him and he grabs it WITH HIS BARE HANDS!! Then he says, no, I need a cinnamon roll, not a pecan roll, so she takes it back WITH HER BARE HANDS!! Absolutely disgusting. When she walked by I could see that she was sweating so I can only imagine what her hands were covered in...I will not be getting any kind of roll from there again! If Omelette Shoppe can clean up their service and get some training in health and safety, I think they might just be a 4-star establishment!

Good breakfast place. They had a good selection of omelettes, which my friends enjoyed, but I wasn't in the mood for omelettes so I went with French Toast. They have a wide selection of bread that you can have with your french toast (or as a side with any meal) and I went with cinnamon raisin. I enjoyed it thoroughly. As in, it was gone. Also, fresh orange juice, which is always more expensive, and generally always worth getting.

The venue was cute and the service was good. Indoor and outdoor seating were available, and it's in a good location, on the main drag. However, we were less than impressed by the food. My pancakes were doughy, like not fully cooked. My friend's French toast was soggy. We didn't have enough butter or syrup. And the silverware was the flimsy kind, prongs were bent in all different directions, and covered in watermarks. A weird pet peeve of mine, but really does influence the dining experience.

The food is spectacular! The place is packed every time I go in, regardless of the day, but keep in mind they are only open until 2pm (their one real draw back). The wait can get a little lengthy, but I'm telling you now- it's worth every moment. The service is fast and efficient. The coffee is delicious. And the food is superb. It's a must try when you're in the Traverse City area.

I just don't get the popularity of this place. Born and raised in T.C., The Omelette Shoppe has forever been touted as "the" place to go for breakfast. I went a handful of times in my teenage years and every single time I left disappointed or underwhelmed. The food, frankly, just isn't that good, *especially* for a place called The Omelette Shoppe. About a week ago, I was visiting town with my fiance and we were thinking of a place to hit for breakfast. We always go to Rounds, which is my favorite, but wanted to do something different. We'd been to Patisserie Amie before and while I honestly just wanted to say Big Boy because I really do think they have one of the best breakfasts in town, I thought, "Hey, let's give TOS another shot. It's been a while. And we can stick to something local." Ugh. First of all, their seating and wait situation seemed confused at best. Two tables sat empty outside for 10-15 minutes with about 6 parties of people standing around waiting for seating. I don't know why these tables weren't just given to the first group willing to sit outside--"Inside or out?" it should have been the first question out of the host's mouth. The french press coffee was one of the high notes. I like that they offer it, first of all, and, second, it was just good coffee. And they have nice, thick coffee mugs that I'm a stickler for. However--the eggs. Yikes. I ordered the Mexican Omelette and that thing was dry as dry could be. The edge around my omelette was *brown*--a cardinal sin for any egg dish. Brian got the Farmer's Scramble which was also painfully overdone. His pancakes, however, were excellent--very fluffy and not the dense, dry, cakey variety I abhor. However--note to the Omlette Shoppe: consider using real Michigan Maple Syrup. It tastes a million times better and I would probably go back just for pancakes. As far as service goes, our server was nice enough I guess. However, when she dropped off our food she didn't even ask if we needed anything else. I had to call to her at the POS station to ask for some hot sauce. And she replied without looking up from the screen and then never brought the hot sauce. She also never checked back with us. There's no excuse for that, ever, but especially not in a place that small. Anyway, I don't plan on going back again. Traverse City needs a truly great, non-greasy spoon breakfast place!!

A simple, tasty breakfast joint. I enjoyed an order of corned beef and hash, which was delicious. Their toast is accompanied by a homemade jam that is quite good. They also have freshly squeezed orange juice! With good food and pleasant service, this is a place I would happily return to.

I really wanted to love this super cute little diner, but I had a pretty crummy experience. The food I finally got was tasty, but they got really busy so: they got my order wrong, never brought the drinks we ordered after the coffee was awful, rushed us the bill before I finished eating, and then got the bill wrong. For 9:30 on a Friday morning... just kind of unacceptable.

Went here for a late brunch and was very happy with our choice. We both got omelettes (german and mexican) and they were awesome. I would say the best omelettes i have ever had. Service was friendly but the food was a little slow but was worth the wait.

I went in March of 2011 and had the Best Eggs Benedict of my life. I had the "Garden Fresh" with spinach & garlic. Now anytime anyone ever talks to me about Eggs Benedict or Traverse City, I immediately tell them about Omelette Shoppe.... now it is time to finally tell Yelp.

We stopped in on our way back home, and decided to try this on a recommendation from the place we stayed. We were seated fairly quickly, and our server was more than friendly. We ended up going with the daily special which was a steak omelette. I'm not a big fan of eggs usually, but figured I'd give it a shot since it had meat in in. Now at $8.95, I honestly it was a bit expensive. The food came out, with an omelette on a plate. No hash browns, nothin, but some cinnamon raisen bread - 1 slice. it WAS tasty, but we had to get our poor server and ask where the hash browns were.....we finally got some. the size of a small OJ, fresh squeezed or not was extremely high...$2.89... sheesh that was a bit ridiculuous. Yes it was good, but not worth the $2.89. Don't get me wrong.....the food was good, but you don't get value for your dollar here.....I think they see tourists coming a mile away.....

As far as breakfast places go, I would have to give this one a high rating. Though the wait for our food was a bit long for our liking, it was all worth it. Great omelettes, great coffee...what else do you need.

My husband LOVED his California Veggie omelette w/ hash browns on the side. Wonderful server, and the food was at our table in a flash. Our only complaint was the coffee ... fair trade coffee is all well and good, but I didn't appreciate this particular blend ... weak and insipid. Otherwise a great place. Will be returning whenever we venture to TC.

Only go here if you like bland microwaved food. Service was rushed and we got about 2 seconds to look over the sprawling menu. The place tried to say they were part of a group promoting "eat local" and even had eat local passports printed up, yet I couldn't find any food on the menu that was actually local. One microwaved skillet and water came to about $12.

After many trips to TC, decided to try 'The Shoppe' for the first time. Had the Red Hot Omelette and was it top notch. Wide open restaurant, so you don't feel like your sitting on top of each other like some breakfast places. Well worth the stop and the wait if you have one.

I've eaten at the Omelette shop quite a few times. It's a favorite of locals and 'non-locals' alike. I don't think there is anything great about it. The location across from the Civic center was always a dive (unless it's been changed). The food is alright. The cinnamon rolls where always good. Having lived in Traverse for many years, I'll probably never eat there again, baring some new ownership or spectacular divine inspiration.

Made our 5th or 6th visit to the Omelette Shoppe downtown and only had a 15 min wait for Sunday breakfast. Small busy place where the wait staff is very friendly and always moving. I had the Leelanau scramble egg dish with spinach, red skins and chose the cranberry bread toast which is great and pleases your sweet tooth for sure. My wife had just basic scrambled eggs, bacon, red skin potatoes and added a cinnamon roll which was warm, drizzled in sweet frosting and had a pat of butter on side. All was very good, except the coffee was a let down as it was just hot dark water. Would love to have had choice for a dark roast or to have it come close to McDonald's coffee. Will go again for sure.

I highly recommend the the pecan rolls, cinnamon goodness. *However, my dad likes the omelette's at Round's more... To each their own, I guess. *Good dishes at omelette sh.: quiche, french toast, oatmeal (though this is way to easy to make and eat at home v.s. pay for in a restaurant so *shrugs*). The scrambles are good too, esp. the Leelanau...mmm parmesan and spinach !!.

this is really for the Front St. Omelette shoppe. Found it to be one of the more upscale breakfast shops. Clientele were obviously business class and in -the-know locals. Food fantastic. I got the Leelanau Scramble which was perfection. Eggs perfectly cooked, not rubbery. Cherry pecan bread divine. And you can't have eggs without home fries. Just wonderful. Hubby got the Greek omelette and home made whole wheat toast. He said it was very good. and I shared my potatoes with him since his didn't come with any. I have eaten here in the past so tried other breakfast cafes in town and was greatly disappointed. One could not ask for a better breakfast than is provided here.!

We have eaten here a few times before and it's been OK. This last time we happened to seated in the back and I was facing the back of the restaurant. I watched a waitress rolling up knives, forks and spoons in napkins with her bare hands, often handling them by the ends you put in your mouth. She also picked up a soup bowl meant for me and brushed something out of it with her hand before filling it with soup. We also ordered 6 cinnamon rolls to go. They wouldn't all go facing up in the box, so she put 2 in sideways. She then proceeded to add A LOT of frosting on the rolls so 2 ended up frosted on the sides. They were good anyway ! Due to the above, we won't be going back soon.

I've only been there twice, but the omelettes really are scrumptious and the pancakes...oh, the pancakes! Order with a cup of coffee or fresh brewed tea at your table and a pecan roll for dessert to go. My only caveat: the service. Each time, service has been only satisfactory. Maybe I just went on bad days. Among other great Northern MI breakfast places: Mabel's in TC--super large portions--and the Pancake House--fluffy omelettes and pancakes--in Petoskey (Bay Harbor).

  • Dee S.

We went twice for breakfast, once got tiered waiting in the long line. We thought that the long line implies an excellent place but were disappointed. The place is overpriced for the quality of the food it serves. The egg omelets were just passable, I had to return mine since it was undercooked and had runny egg in it. The food was served barely warm, even the omelet I sent back came just warm. The size of the serving was on the skimpy side. The toasted bread was ok, also not warm enough, and again skimpy serving, pre-buttered without asking. Just 1 selection, a strawberry jam in a plastic container, looked unappetizing. Could you not afford a selection of pre-packed Smucker's? What if I like another flavor? Coffee was just ok, warm not HOT, service was not very good. The bottom line: We will not return and definitely do NOT recommend the place. If I could I would give it 0 stars.

This place was great! I didn't sit down to eat I just ordered take-out twice but the food was excellent! The place was located just across the street from the Howe Arena/Civic Center where I was working at the Habitat for Humanity Flower and Garden Show so I just walked across the street to pick up breakfast. The first morning I ordered the Italian omelette, it was excellent. The toast it came with seemed home made and delicious. I got a tall orange juice, and while I thought it was a little over priced at first as soon as I tasted it I knew it was worth it. It was definitely fresh squeezed. The second morning I ordered some pancakes and a Belgian waffle with the fresh orange juice. Again I wasn't disappointing. They both tasted delicious. The food came out fast and hot and the service was friendly. The next time I'm back in TC I'll be sure to stop in for breakfast. This is a great place to go.

I've been to both locations and found + and - to both. The front street location is very small and quaint but bad parking and elbow to elbow when seated. The M-72 is much bigger and parking is great but is in a strip mall which isn't as cozy. Neither location had friendly staff but they did their jobs. I tried lunch for the first time deciding on the corned beef sandwich. It was DELICIOUS. Perfectly proportioned ingredients. I liked the fact I could get fresh fruit or raw veggies with dip as an included side. I'm usually someone who would prefer a bowl of cereal over anything else for breakfast but I have tried some omelette's before - I like the "create your own" selections although they do get a bit pricey for me when I do that. The strawberry jam that comes with the yummy sourdough toast tastes homemade.

The Omelette Shoppe is consistent, predictable and tasty. That's why my family goes there nearly every weekend to kick back and have a great breakfast. You need to go to the one on Cass. It's small, cozy and virtually all homemade. For us, it's the best place in town and we've been to most of 'em. If you're fussy and and finicky stay away -- most don't, hence long lines on weekends.

I have had several very good meals here, and it has a vibe that is both busy (most mornings) and relaxed (fitting for a tourist area). It does have delicious coffee and very good food ... BUT the last time I was there I was disappointed in the cinnamon rolls and the attitude of management when we brought this to their attention. The rolls were just not as good as they always had been, and the manager just didn't seem to care. Too bad -- I hope this isn't the beginning of a trend.

They use high quality ingredient and they have an interesting menu with variety. My spinach quiche was good. I had a cup of their tomato basil soup. Menu described this soup as light and creamy and it really was like that! I love it. Even the fresh fruit that came with my quiche was great. Other family members were happy with their food. The only drawback is their sitting. They have small booths/tables only. We had 5 people. They sat us at a booth and pulled an extra chair for me. I blocked the already narrow aisle. It was uncomfortable for me and inconvenient for the servers and other customers.
